Estelle Crommarty Wilkins
January 20, 1890 August 15, 1971
Estella (Atlas) Crommarty was the third child of eleven born to Jayne and Ethel Crommarty. She was born in Riceville, Georgia on January 20, 1890. Estelle and her husband, Gus Wilkins arrived “up north” here to Philadelphia in the early 1900’s, we believe shortly after their marriage.
Estella and Gus opened up their home to all the family and friends who came “up north”. Estella was President of the Usher Board for at least 20 years or more at our family church, African Methodist Episcopal Union Church, located in North Philadelphia.
In her later years, her younger sisters Margaret and Bernetta lived with her before moving into their own home together. Estella and Gus had no biological children, but they had all the nieces and nephews to shower with their love.
Estella left us with this legacy, “If I can help somebody along the way, then my living will not be in vain.”
