Margaret Crommarty-Collier
May 6, 1904 – February 25, 1993
Margaret Crommarty was the ninth child of eleven born to Jayne and Ethel Crommarty. She was born in Gainesville, Florida on May 6, 1904. “Maggie” or “Sis” as her loved ones called her, traveled early in her life to Philadelphia to join her sisters, Mrs. Estella Wilkins and Mrs. Bernetta Harper. It was here in Philadelphia, where she met and married her husband, Paul Collier. They had no children.
As a member of the African Methodist Episcopal Union Church in Philadelphia. Maggie sang on the Gospel Chorus and served on the Missionary Board. She was highly recognized for her duties.
In her later years, Maggie lived with her older sister, Estella and her younger sister, Bernetta. When Maggie and Bernetta shared a home together, Carol Saline and Sharon J. Wohlmuth featured them in the Philadelphia Inquirer Magazine and in May 1995 in Sisters, a book. Bernetta and Margaret: The Crommarty Sisters. This was a dedication to both Bernetta and Margaret – their spirits will continue to live on in the pages of Sisters.
