William M. Crommarty
September 7, 1895 – November 30, 1992
William McKinley Crommarty was the sixth child of eleven born to Jayne and Ethel Crommarty. He was born in Lake City, Florida. “Pop” or “MC” as his loved ones called him was born on September 7, 1895. He met and married Helen Collier on May 13, 1920. They migrated North to Philadelphia for their honeymoon which lasted forever. They were blessed with one son, William Jesse, one daughter, Eunice Gladys and 6 grandchildren. They remained life long partners for over fifty-eight years. They were honored in May of 1970 with a beautiful Golden Anniversary Celebration, hosted by the family
“MC” was a true Christian, “God-Fearing” Man, a real leader always supportive and caring. Most of all, he was respectful of others, especially with his family and friends.
“MC” received recognition and awards upon his retirement of thirty-eight years in the U.S. Customs Service. Most of all he treasured the “Purple Heart” awarded to him for his service in World War I. “MC” served as President of the Usher Board for at least twenty years or more at the African Methodist Episcopal Union Church, located in North Philadelphia.
He left us with this legacy, “If I can help somebody along the way, then my living will not be in vain.”
